Future Literacy’s Founder Hosts Presidential Government Delegation at Digital Technologies for Defence Working Group in AMETIC

Last week, the Digital Technologies for Defence Working Group, coordinated by María Luque Fernández, founder and CEO of Future Literacy and Vice President of AMETIC’s Innovation Commission, welcomed Marian Scheifler Alácano, Director General of Strategic Projects and Sectoral Policies at the Office of Economic Affairs and G20 of the Spanish Presidency. The session marked a strategic dialogue following the recent publication of Spain’s Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence.

This meeting highlights the pivotal role of dual-use technologies and digital innovation in advancing strategic autonomy and defence resilience. In an era of accelerated digitalisation, hybrid threats, and systemic interdependence, Spain’s ability to sustain critical infrastructures—from energy and communications to advanced industrial capacities—relies on integrating civilian and defence capabilities in a coherent, forward-looking ecosystem. By connecting government vision with industrial innovation, the working group exemplifies how systemic foresight drives both technological sovereignty and national security.

“Spaces like this working group are essential to align industrial capacity, government policy, and technological innovation. Our goal is to ensure Spain builds resilient, adaptive, and dual-use capabilities that make the country a strategic leader in European defence.”
María Luque Fernández, Founder & CEO of Future Literacy

Over 80 participants joined the session, including representatives from leading companies such as Indra, GMV, Inetum, TECNALIA Research & Innovation, GRUP MEDIAPRO, Esri, Eurecat, Vicomtech, Gradiant, i2CAT Research Centre, Funditec, FI Group, ArXiTEC microDevices, and Zabala Innovation Spain. With the active collaboration of the Spanish Presidency and industry leaders, the working group continues to strengthen Spain’s technological sovereignty, foster innovation ecosystems, and advance a European defence architecture that is resilient, interoperable, and strategically autonomous.
